Laura Baxter

Laura Baxter is a Melbourne-based vocalist, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist with over 25 years of professional music experience. She is best known for playing bass with ARIA-nominated alt-country outfit Georgia State Line, performing at the Tamworth Country Music Festival for seven consecutive years. She has also played with Henry Wagons & the Only Children, Hana & Jessie-Lee’s Bad Habits, Queenie & Hank, and Kerryn Fields. Laura has toured internationally, performing across Canada and Los Angeles, and toured Australia with Henry Wagons’ Johnny Cash project, CASH: The American Recordings.

 

Alongside her role as a touring session musician, Laura leads two new projects: Bad Bitch Rodeo, Melbourne-based all-female band playing classic country, soul, and rock’n’roll, and Silver Threads, a Folk-Roots-Americana band with Gus Rigby and producer Josh Barber.

 

Passionate about music education, Laura loves mentoring young musicians. She has worked with YOWO, Amplified Victoria (formerly Girls Rock), and Sweethearts, supporting students to develop their creativity, musicianship, and confidence on stage.

Rock Academy Australia

Rock Academy is a school holiday music initiative for teenagers established in 2015. Currently staged in Melbourne, now broadened to include a Masters initiative for the more mature player twice a year. Rock Academy features established artists mentoring teenage musicians as they rehearse a cover song and write an original song to perform on a real rock stage.
