Minami Deguchi is a guitarist and songwriter known for his unapologetically direct approach—”reckless, blunt, and simple, but creative,” as those who know him best put it.
Born and raised in Warrnambool by Japanese parents, Minami Alex Francis Deguchi began his musical journey at the age of 3 with classical piano lessons—long before he could speak a word of English. This early foundation in discipline and structure laid the groundwork for a lifetime in music.
At 11, he discovered the electric guitar, which ignited a passion that led to years of performing in various bands and independently releasing solo work. By 17, he was personally mentored by Joel O’Keeffe (Airbourne), and in his final year of high school, collaborated with producer Adam B. Metal (Rocket League) to write, record, and release his debut album, Sirens and Stalkers.
Following the album’s release, Deguchi relocated to Melbourne to pursue a solo career and became active in multiple projects across genres. After a brief hiatus from performing, he is now returning to the stage as a session guitarist and songwriter, bringing his sharp edge and diverse experience back into the spotlight.
His musical influences span from Trivium, Slash, and Hi-Standard, to MGK and ONE OK ROCK, reflecting a love for both high-energy rock and emotionally charged songwriting.
When not making music, Deguchi spends his time driving JDM cars, collecting Hotwheels and (accidentally) getting banned from online gaming servers.
